The Rabelais Museum welcomes you to La Devinière, the 15th-century country house where François Rabelais was born, and the high point of the Picrocholine Wars.
Monk, doctor, writer, botanist... the author of Gargantua and Pantagruel (written during the Renaissance, under the reign of François 1st) reveals his many faces here. The author is one of the few writers to have a country named after him: La Rabelaisie.
La Devinière is the only museum dedicated to François Rabelais. It comprises a group of remarkable buildings: a 15th-century dwelling, a dovecote, troglodytic cellars and a winemaker's house, surrounded by a garden, an orchard and vines.
