Richelieu, the city of the Cardinal
In 1631… Louis XIII, at the same time as he granted his minister the Cardinal of Richelieu the right to erect his seigneury as a Duchy-Peerage, gave him permission to build «a village enclosed by walls and ditches and build a hall».
Two thousand workers worked on the construction sites. In 1642, when the Cardinal died, the construction of the city was practically finished.
